Overview
As a community manager, you can configure the search feature in Jive to recognize synonyms of names. This helps improve user search results.
This article provides the procedure for configuring synonyms for names.
Information
You can set up synonyms for the names of users to improve results for user searches. For example, you might want to set up "James, Jim, Jimmy" or "Susan, Suzy, Susie".
Synonyms are language-specific. If you have multiple languages enabled, you need to enable them per language. For more information, see Enabling Search in Multiple Languages.
Before you rebuild the content search index, consider performance and the needs of your site users. It is recommended that you do not reindex search manually during peak usage hours or a site-wide campaign, etc.
Process
To set up search synonyms for names:
- Navigate to Admin Console > System > Settings > Search.
- Navigate to User Search > Synonyms.
- Under Synonyms, type in any set of synonyms as a comma-separated.
- Click Add Synonyms.
Note that by default, new synonyms work only on new users. If you want to apply new synonyms to preexisting users, you need to rebuild the User Search index. Rebuilding the index may take significant time and can affect system resources. For more information, see Reindexing User Search.
