Jive Video Provider is the functionality used to upload, process, view videos in Jive communities. Jive uses AWS Video Provider to serve the varied needs of our customers:

AWS Video Provider

For Jive Cloud and most Hosted instances, the Jive Video provider blends AWS Elemental MediaConvert, AWS Transcribe, AWS Translate with the native Jive functionality, and enables automatic speech recognition with the generation of captions/transcriptions and their translations to a number of languages.

Supported features

• Thumbnails: You can select one of the auto-generated ones or upload your custom images.
• Captions/transcriptions and translations: Captions/transcriptions in the video language and translated to other languages can be generated automatically or you can upload your own prepared files.
• Video downloads control: Video source and caption downloads can be enabled or disabled for the community.
• Video player enhancements: Several options are available for users: time-indexed transcriptions, playback speed and quality options, customizable texts. This allows, for example, to get quality videos on different devices with the transcriptions displayed alongside the video.

Commonly used video terms

• Transcription
  Transcription is the process of converting all of the words spoken in the video to a text representation. This text representation is called the video's transcript.

• Captions
  Captions are time-coded text that is synced with what's currently being spoken in the video. Captions are a subset of the transcripts.

• Thumbnail
  Thumbnail is a static image that is displayed as the video cover. For example, thumbnails are displayed instead of videos in News and activity feeds.

• Transcoding
  The process of converting the video file into the required format for storage and for streaming.

• Video content
  Video and related files are uploaded by the user directly or created as an outcome of video processing. This includes the video files for download, streaming optimized video files, captions, and thumbnails.
