Overview
Jive uses Perceptive Media (previously known as Twistage) as the video provider for Hosted/On-premise instances and AWS technologies (AWS Elemental MediaConvert, AWS Transcribe, and AWS Translate) for Cloud instances to convert and process the uploaded videos. As these are two different technologies, the supported file formats and codecs slightly differ based on your instance's implementation type.

Supported caption/transcriptions file types
WebVTT (.vtt), DFXP (.dfxp), SRT (.srt), SAMI (.sami, .smi), SCC (.scc), and TTML (.ttml)
Note: The encoding must be UTF-8 for captions/transcriptions files.
Supported image formats for thumbnails
JPG (.jpeg, .jpg), static GIF (.gif), BMP (.bmp), and PNG (.png)
For Jive Hosted/On-premise Instances
Supported video formats
AVI, MOV, WMV, MP4, MPEG, FLV, 3GP, and 3G2
Supported video codecs
All of the popular MPEG-4 variants like DivX, XviD, H.264, 3IVX, MSMPEG4, and Windows Media 9
Supported audio codecs
MP2, MP3, WAV, AAC, WMA, and for mobile devices AMR in both narrow-band and wide-band varieties
