Identifying Mobile Traffic from Regular Desktop/Laptop Traffic

Overview

It is possible to differentiate Jive Daily specific traffic from regular desktop/laptop usage using the DES report, based on the Web.UserAgent. This article provides some information on this topic.

Information

Reviewing a DES Activity CSV export, we can find in the Web.UserAgent column the below entries. These entries will let us know the mobile device type that is being used to access Jive.

  • Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 8.0.0; SAMSUNG SM-C7010 Build/R16NW) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) SamsungBrowser/8.2 Chrome/63.0.3239.111 Mobile Safari/537.36

    For Android-based phones

  • Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 12_1_2 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/12.0 Mobile/15E148 Safari/604.1

    For iOS

  • Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; CPU OS 11_4 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/11.0 Mobile/15E148 Safari/604.1

    For Ipads

However, if you want to measure the exact Jive Daily usage, you can do the following:

  1. Using the Data Export Service, choose the Activity CSV report.

  2. Select your desired time frame.

  3. When the download is completed, do a search for jive-daily.

  4. You will see entries like the below ones, indicating the Jive daily version and the operating system of the mobile device.

    • jive-daily/2019.0 android

    • jive-daily/2019.1.1 ios
