Overview
This article intends to provide information on the false issue where Active Directory Distribution List groups are getting access denied.
Information
Active Directory manages 2 kinds of groups:
- Distribution groups which are intended to be used solely as email distribution lists. These lists are for use with email applications. You can add and remove contacts from the list so that they will - or will not - receive email(s) sent to the distribution group. You cannot use distribution groups to assign permissions on any objects, and you cannot use them to filter group policy settings.
- Security groups which allow you to manage user and computer access to shared resources. Please note that the security groups can be used as distribution lists too.
Therefore, Jive allows access to Security groups only, to base the policies off of the Active Directory settings, and Distribution groups not having access is the correct/expected behavior of the system.
