Are emojis supported in blog post titles?
(Specifically with reference to Jive On-Premise v9.21)
Answer
Emojis in blog post titles are partially supported in Jive 9.21. Here's a breakdown of how they behave:
During Editing
You can insert emojis into the blog post title field while editing. The editor accepts the characters without issue.
After Publishing
Once the blog post is published, emojis in the title are generally not rendered. Instead, they are sanitized — meaning:
-
The emoji may disappear.
-
In most cases, it's replaced with a non-breaking space (
-
The visual output on the live site will omit the emoji.
However, emojis that belong to the Miscellaneous Symbols
block in Unicode will render correctly, including all of these:
Notes:
-
Not all emojis are treated equally.
-
Some "older" Unicode symbols (from the Miscellaneous Symbols block) are preserved, especially if they are recognized as both symbols and emojis.
Example:
✔️ ☀️ (Sun symbol – from Miscellaneous Symbols block) may render fine
✖️ 😂 (Face with Tears of Joy – from Emoticons block) is usually sanitized/removed
